History
In 1883, Willard E. Winner came to the area with visionary plans of building a city and bridge. He built a rock road that became Swift Avenue; he started constructing a bridge across the Missouri River; and purchased land and laid out subdivisions in town lots.
Willard Winner was not able to fulfill his dream for North Kansas City but the North Kansas City Development Company, created by three businesses – Armour Packing, Swift Packing, and the Burlington Railroad – was able to. North Kansas City was well planned and built with homes, commercial houses, paved and lighted streets, a waterworks system and parks in advance of its inhabitants. The district was incorporated on November 4, 1912, as the Town of North Kansas City.
Today, North Kansas City is a thriving, progressive community that has become one of the hottest entertainment destinations in the region. #ExploreNKC by visiting one of the many business pages on the site or by viewing the map of unique business and entertainment locations throughout North Kansas City.
